Good-Bye Hangover

Is it a smoothie or is it a shake? You can be the judge of that one!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day my friend! Whether you are planning to get upside down in a Sunday morning yoga class, or stay nestled in bed recovering from last nights fun of indulging in a pint (or three) of those dark, delicious stouts during your weekend long St. Patrick’s Day celebration, Cured has you covered with this creamy, minty, infused Shamrock Shake!

Headaches, nausea (perhaps accompanied by vomiting), anxiety, irritability, depression, difficulty concentrating, muscle aches, fatigue, shaking, and spinning are just some of the symptoms of a hangover. However, taking a serving or two of CBD oil right before you zonk out for the night, can minimize your chances of waking up the next day without any of those dreaded symptoms.

5 ways CBD can help your hangover:

-Headache Relief:

With its powerful anti-inflammatory benefits, CBD works especially great for eliminating headaches by reducing inflamed tissue and blood vessels in the cranial regions. Headaches can be caused by changes in the release of neurochemicals that stimulate nerves and produce pain signals in the central nervous systems.

In a study published in Future Medicinal Chemistry, stated that the effects of active cannabinoids on the ECS were noted to “suppress inflammatory responses” in acute tissues regions, which is exactly what happens in the instance of onset headaches and migraines.

-Reduce Nausea:

Research indicates that cannabinoids, including CBD, may be effective clinically for treating both nausea and vomiting produced by chemotherapy or other therapeutic treatments.

The non-intoxicating cannabinoid CBD interacts with serotonin releasing receptors, and when given in relatively small doses has been shown to help alleviate both nausea and vomiting. CBD can also be effective in easing anxiety, which can help users manage the angst of chronic nausea.

-Ease Anxiety:

Waking up with regret, tension, and a sense of discomfort can stimulate feelings of anxiety. Anxiety-related disorders affect a huge segment of our population – 40 million adults (18%) in the United States age 18 and older. In response to this, Big Pharma has developed numerous drugs to treat an anxiety-related disorder, from selective serotonin inhibitors like Prozac and Zoloft, which are known to come with a long list of side-effects.

For those that are seeking alternative treatments, CBD provides a viable alternative for anxiety relief. Studies have shown that CBD exerts several actions in the brain that explain why it could be effective in treating anxiety. 5-HT1A is a subtype of the serotonin receptor, which is important because anxiety and depression can sometimes be reduced by CBD boosting the signals through serotonin receptors. In one study, a Spanish researcher found that CBD enhances 5-HT1A transmission and may affect serotonin faster than SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, the designation for a class of antidepressants). This research conducted a small double-blind study of patients afflicted with generalized social anxiety. After consuming CBD, participants reported a significant decrease in anxiety. With this, researchers concluded that CBD significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment, and discomfort in their speech performance, whereas the placebo group experienced “higher anxiety, cognitive impairment, and discomfort.”

-A boost in Antioxidants:

A boost in antioxidants after a long night out could have the benefits of bringing your immune system back online, as well as prevent any illness that could come when an immune system is suppressed. Antioxidants are an important part of any nutritious diet and are essential for maintaining health and proper biological function. An antioxidant is a natural substance that inhibits oxidation, a chemical reaction that produces the free radicals that eventually damage cells and lead to illnesses and chronic diseases.

While it would be irresponsible of us to declare it as a ‘cure-all’, there is existing evidence that holds positive benefits that come along with taking CBD for a boost in vitamins and minerals. A 1998 National Institute of Mental Health study was the first one to document CBD’s antioxidant properties. The study also found that CBD is a more powerful antioxidant source than both vitamin C and E. CBD can protect the body against oxidative stress, the damage it causes and helps improve recovery.

-Neuroprotective Effect:

With a night out drinking, your body is not the only one feeling the damage, your brain is too! Having neuroprotective properties, CBD helps reduce damage to the brain and nervous system and encourages the growth and development of new neurons. Oxidative stress caused by ischemia, traumatic blows, or autoimmune and genetic disorders can cause temporary or permanent neural damage, but studies have shown that CBD is able to protect against this damage and improve recovery.

CBD’s neuroprotective properties are also potentially beneficial in helping prevent and limit the progression of the neurological disorder, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), and Parkinson’s disease. More research to investigate CBDs efficacy for promoting cell and neuron health is needed, but the evidence so far suggests that CBD could be used to minimize neural and cell damage and encourage healing and relief.

When is the most optimal time to take CBD to reduce the morning after hangover symptoms?

Don’t ruin your buzz by taking it before you start drinking! One study found that CBD actually reduced blood alcohol levels. It is suggested to take a dose or two before you go to bed to allow full absorption into the body and reduce the likelihood of a headache and nausea in the morning.

It is suggested to take CBD Oil sublingual (under the tongue) and hold in your mouth for 60 seconds before swallowing. For those seeking an alternative way to use CBD aside from oils, Cured has you covered:
