CBD for the Digestive Tract

The digestive system is becoming a more central part of conversations surrounding health and wellness. As scientists come to understand the integral role of the digestive tract, we’re also learning that CBD may play a pivotal role. Together, what could the digestive tract and CBD do in combination?  

The Digestive System and Overall Health 

The human digestive system is incredibly vast. Not only does it “take up” a lot of areas in the body, but it is made up of various major organs. 

Digestion begins in the mouth, via our salivary glands and teeth (the chewing mechanism). From here, nutrients full downward and are distributed throughout the body.

Researchers agree that evidence points to the endocannabinoid system’s influence along the digestive tract. Endocannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) are present along and throughout the digestive tract. The review states: 

“Accumulating evidence indicates that the endocannabinoid system is a key modulator of gastrointestinal physiology, influencing satiety, emesis, immune function, mucosal integrity, motility, secretion, and visceral sensation.” 

CBD uses the CB1 and CB2 receptors as a pathway to the rest of the body; their presence in the digestive system suggests that CBD may provide therapeutic benefits to these areas. Further research is necessary, however. 

Why Use CBD for Digestive Health?

There are a few reasons why you may consider adding CBD to your diet.  

First and foremost, CBD contains various amino acids. For example, CBD contains B-complex vitamins. More specifically, amino acids promote balance in the human body by helping to regulate and promote a variety of essential processes, and especially repair.
