Cacao Ceremony & Recipes

Did someone say chocolate?

Put that store bought dark chocolate bar down, and get ready to experience a heart felt cup of chocolatey goodness with a Cured twist!

Cacao ceremonies are a popular ritual in yoga communities and truth seekers looking to awaken a deeper sense of compassion, empathy, and Love for self and the world.

As the ancient traditions of this heart opening elixir are becoming more popular in the urban jungle, more recipes are spotlighting this Amazonian bean ingredient and more truth seekers are utilizing it as true mind, body, and soul plant medicine.

History of the Cacao Ceremony:

Cacao elixir and ceremonies have been around for thousands of years, originating all the way back to Mayan and Aztec traditions in Central and South America, used for spiritual, medicinal and ceremonial purposes for inner awakening and creative guidance.

Pure cacao is used as a heart opening medicine for people to safely experience awakening revelation and inner healing through guided meditation. Ceremonial cacao is used in a sacred medicinal ritual, where intentions are set and once consumed, euphoric states are unlocked, negative emotions are released and an individual is able to connect to themselves and the love energy in ones body.

Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Benefits of Consuming Cacao:

Raw cacao has been used for centuries to heal the mental, physical, and spiritual body through meditation.

Physically, pure cacao is a natural and ancient plant medicine, providing your body with a high concentration of vitamins, minerals and is a powerful antioxidant. The ingredient is also known to enhance the immune system and lowers cholesterol and blood pressure.

Mentally, ceremonial grade cacao is often used to change your perspective, enabling you to recognize and let go of repeated patterns or bad habits, release energetic blockages and accepts of yourself that are no longer serving you. One of the main active ingredients is Theobromine. Theo-brama literally translates as God-Food, and potentiates the release of dopamine, the ‘please’ hormone. This, alongside phenethylamine, which is known to help relieve stress and depression, is released in the body during emotional euphoria, creating a heightened sensation and empathy in the heart space.

Naturally packed with caffeine, the cacao elixir gives the drinker a burst of energy that helps increase focus and improves memory and is said to be a big creativity enhancer and facilitator of deep inner mindfulness and connectedness.

Spiritually, cacao ceremonies are a type of shamanic healing – which is one of the oldest holistic healing practices used by indigenous cultures all over the world. These types of healing ceremonies work with rebelling energies in the body to regain health. However, unlike a typical shamanic journey, drinking cacao will NOT make you hallucinate or give you some ‘out-of-body’ psychedelic experience.

The cacao plant, instead, is used to gently touch your heart and to guide you into an inner journey deep into the emotional center of your body – our heart chakra

What’s the difference between store bought chocolate and raw cacao?

Cacao and store bought chocolate come from the same bean, however it is not the same.

Although they come from the same source, the taste is not similar.

One bean, but two different profiles and uses. What makes these two bi-cultural delights different is that chocolate is only 20-30% of cacao, while the rest is excess sugars, dairy, and oils.

Ritual cacao is made from ground cacao beans, water, cacao butter, and sugar (typically coconut or monk). Since it is in its purest form, this bitter liquid is actually naturally high in iron, magnesium and B-complex vitamins.

Since this unsweetened muddy looking cacao drink does not come with the sweet indulgence as many prefer, adding different natural sweeteners allows for more enjoyment to the overall experience.
