Intention Setting: The Key To Making 2020 Your Year

As this year, and decade come to an end, we’d like to invite you to join us with a sacred ritual to reflect on this past year and forecast towards the year ahead.

“The power of intention.” Ever heard of it? Probably. It’s a phrase that seems to be at the tip of the tongue of many spiritual teachers, life coaches, yoga teachers and wellness gurus these days.

Intentions are the fuel to manifesting your goals and visions. An intention will help create more clarity in your life, especially when the seed is planted right before the New Year. Setting an intention is like drawing a map of where you wish to go. It is the journey itself, rather than the actual destination.

That said, an intention cannot be forced. It’s a seed that you have to sow and then let reap on its own.

You may be familiar with this word if you are a regular yogi. Most teachers ask their class to set an intention at the beginning of class. But that’s it, they often leave you hangin’ from there. You may have set the intention to sweat, to work your core, or to go to yoga five times a week. While those are all great goals, they are not intentions.

Goals VS Intentions:

It is common for an intention to be confused with a goal — however, it is not something you attach an expectation or evaluation to. It’s something you want to align with in your life. It’s an aim, a purpose, or attitude you’d be proud to commit to.

A goal comes from the head, but an intention comes from the heart. Voicing intentions will take your mind off the “lack” and limitations you perceive, and shift your awareness to aligning towards a positive change on your own life and those around you.

“Intentions compressed into words enfold magical power.”

~ Deepak Chopra

Why Intention Setting:

By now, we all recognize and accept that human consciousness has an effect on everything —from the molecular structure of water to the well-being of humankind. Think about this: your body is 90 percent water. Dr. Masaru Emoto proved that water can be influenced by intention and thought. Imagine the changes that can take place within your body as you begin to consciously give intention to positive choices within your life.

How To Set Intentions:

Each intention should be closely tied to your personal thoughts, values and perspective on life. Intentions can be a clear and specific wish, or as simple as a word or phrase you’d like to align yourself with.

An intention is a guiding principle for how you want to be, live, and show up in the world— during meditation, yoga, work or any area of your life.

Here are some thought-starters to help you get started in forming an intention:

  • What matters most to you?
  • What would you like to build, create, or nurture in your life?
  • What would you like to let go of?
  • Who would you like to forgive in your life?
  • How do you feel when you are your happiest self?
  • What makes you feel proud?
  • What word(s) would you like to align yourself with?
  • What fears would you like to release?
  • What are you grateful for?

A few of our own intentions for 2020:

  • We intend to make meditation a more important part of our lifestyle.
  • We intend to lead by example.
  • We intend to make wellness a main pillar in our life.
  • We intend to love unconditionally.
  • We intend to incorporate CBD often!

Once your intention is set, be sure to reflect back to it during your day to day routines. We’d love to hear what you come up with! Let us know what your 2020 intention is in the comments below!

Have a safe and happy New Year!
